Should we take Vitamin Supplements?

With an ever growing emphasis on health, and looking after our bodies, there are an array of products now on the market aimed to assist us on this quest.

I give vitamins to my little boy, just because he has turned into a fuss pot, and I know for sure that he isn't getting all his vitamins and minerals. Probably like most 4 year olds, to be fair.

But moving on to us grown-up people, ideally we should be getting all our vitamins and minerals from the foods we eat. Our body needs vitamins and minerals, they are essential nutrients that help our body work. But albeit, it can all be a little confusing.
Which ones do we need? What vitamins do what? What foods, provide us with what vitamins?

I aim in my life to get all my vitamins and minerals from foods. I love cooking, I love most foods, and I like to look after myself. But this isn't always the case. The colder months when colds and flus are doing the rounds, trips away, nights out, stress, change of circumstances, well anything that puts a chink in our chain,  our diet can suffer, and we can be the first to neglect ourselves and our health.

Enter vitamin supplements.

Seven Seas kindly sent me a pack of their Perfect 7 Women Vitamin Supplements to try out, and I have had them on trial for two months now. The box contains a 30 day duo pack, 2 sheets of purple capsules and 2 packs of gold capsules. You take one of each with a cold drink. The capsules are an average size, and easy to swallow. The price of this box is £10.50, working out at 35p per day.

I like that they combine a whole range of important vitamins and minerals in two easy to take capsules.
I never copy and paste, but I thought it would be useful to see the breakdown below of the main vitamins, and what they assist with improving:

Skin & Nails -Zinc contributes to the maintenance of normal skin and nails
Hair - Biotin contributes to the maintenance of normal hair
Energy - Magnesium contributes to energy yielding metabolism
Vision - Vitamin B2 contributes to maintenance of normal vision
Hormonal Activity - Vitamin B6 helps to regulate hormonal activity

The supplements also have Vitamin D in, which is so needed now that the sun is not around as much anymore. Yup, "fun fact alert" the sun helps our body produce Vitamin D, and lack of vitamin D in us humans, is so apparent in the UK in the Autumn/Winter months. Lack of vitamin D can make you feel really tired and lethargic,  trust me I have been there, it ain't good.

So for me these are a great back-up. It can not be disputed that our bodies need vitamins and minerals - that's a scientific fact. So when we may not be taking care of ourselves for any given reason - I feel a supplement is an easy, and quick alternative.

  2. I have a folic acid and vitamin D deficiency and have to take tablets every single day for it. If I miss a dose I feel really unwell so I definitely believe in the merit of taking supplements! Great post xxx

  3. I used to always take vitamins, but then I saw a horizons documentary about how you pee most of what you're swallowing so you're not really getting much benefits, that being said something is better than nothing and during the winter they defiantly help!
